Vera v. Kalckreuth is a medical doctor and public health professional with academic and work experience on the African and the European continent.

She specialized in Germany in Internal Medicine as well as in Tropical and Emergency Medicine and Palliative Care. She worked as a clinician in hospitals in Hamburg and Berlin for many years.

Since she also graduated with a Master (Public Health in Developing Countries) from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, she became an all-rounder, identifying with both being a physician in the hospital and a clinical scientist in the field. Her field experience mainly derives from working with the International Vaccine Institute (located in Seoul, S. Korea) on infectious diseases in several African countries and North Korea.

Together with her family, Vera moved to Rwanda in 2022. She works as a consultant, i.e. on a project related to antibiotic stewardship in the Western Province of Rwanda.

Vera considers palliative care the baseline and backbone of practicing medicine anywhere on our planet. She supports ACREOL in the training of health care professionals, particularly in pain and symptom management of patients with terminal illnesses.
