René Kabagamba graduated from the University of Rwanda, the College of Science and Technology, with a B.S. degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering in 2012 and received a M.S degree in Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon University Africa in June 2017.

He worked in the telecom sector when his country was starting the SIM card registration exercise as part of a regional integration agenda. He is currently an Artificial Intelligence Engineer at Pivot Access Ltd., a payment solution company in Kigali, Rwanda, and he is one of the few engineers in his country taking advantage of machine learning techniques to extract value from the huge number of daily transactions processed by his company.

He is also the co-leader of the Facebook developer circle in Kigali. They are working to bring local developers together to provide software solutions to some of the challenges in their society while inspiring and helping the youth to learn to code.​
